About Histomap

HistoMap makes specialist heritage data accessible to the public. HistoMap is an initiative by Heritage Innovation Limited. The app helps achieve our purpose of enhancing public access to heritage.

This app is the result of scholarly research by experts in archaeology, historic buildings and heritage landscapes. We use data which is in the public domain, highlighting key facts and points of interest for the widest possible audience.

Our database is compiled entirely by humans who are professional heritage experts with over 30 years experience. We do not use AI to compile our databases, and we do not ‘scrape’ data — all entries are compiled manually and checked by real humans.

The project is led by Dr Paul Belford FSA MCIfA, an archaeologist and heritage consultant  with over 30 years experience in the UK and internationally.
